Flyer Design Software

We offer our Flyer downloads in the Encapsulated Postscript (vector .EPS) format. You can create or change a flyer, overlaying and mixing together photos, graphics, and text, however to be able to do this you will need to have access to the appropriate program.

The industry-standard program for editing .EPS files is Adobe Illustrator.

If this program is out of your budget, there are free alternatives available such as Gimp. Note: You need to install GhostScript to be able to read .EPS files with GIMP. GhostScript can be downloaded here.

Some tips:
  • Illustrator creates vector graphics and vector text. Vector graphics consist of lines and curves that contain mathematical objects called vectors.
  • Illustrator will allow you to convert a vector image to a bitmap. It will also allow you to import bitmapped images but you cannot edit them in the program. You cannot use vector images for Web graphics unless the images are incorporated into special technologies such as Macromedia Flash.
  • Some filters can be applied to bitmap images but cannot be applied to vector images. You can scale a vector graphic to any size without losing quality. A bitmap will change quality if you enlarge it or reduce it.
  • Bitmap graphics are much larger in file size than vector graphics. Therefore, vector images take up much less storage space and can be downloaded faster.
  • You can use raster graphics programs such as Adobe Photoshop to import .EPS files, but they will become pixelized and probably not resizable or easy easy to manipulate as with a dedicated vector graphics program.

Ultimately, your choice of which software to use is a personal one, and is based on skill level, current software owned, and your specific needs for the design.
